Bu yazımızda, Radyo Amatörlerini dolaylı olarak ilgilendiren, fakat bilgi olarak gerektiğine inandığım konulardan birisi olan EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) elektromanyetik palslerden bahsedelim.
Gökyüzünde çok parlak bir ışık gördüğünüzü düşünün. Hiç kimseye birşey olmamış fakat transistorlu radyonuz susmuş, arabanız çalışmamak için inatla direniyor, telefonlarınız çalışmıyor, aydınlatma yok olmuş, eğer sağ kalmışsak birdenbire kendimizi Taş devrinde buluruz değilmi? Tabii anladığınız gibi bir atom bombası patlamasından söz ediyoruz.
Katı maddeden imal edilmiş Solid State of Art yarı iletkenlerin kullanım sahaları, şu an ve gelecekte tüm yaşamımızda etkili olacak boyutlara ulaşmışlardır. Nükleer bir patlamada veya nükleer bir savaşta, yarı iletkenlerin ve yarı iletkenlerle çalışan tüm cihazlarımızın atom bombası ile ne ilgisi olabilir? Bu kuşkuyu duyanların yanılacağını şimdiden söylemek mümkündür.
Tüm nükleer patlamalar, yarattıkları elektromanyetik palsler (EMP) sebebiyle, tüm iletkenlerde bir voltaj endüklenmesine sebeb olurlar.
EMP'ler: 3 milyon volt, 10.000 amper, 30 milyar watt.
En şiddetli yıldırımın enerjisi, EMP'nin milyonda birine bile ulaşamaz.
Konunun daha anlaşılabilir olması için şöyle diyebiliriz; 3 adet 10 megatonluk atom bombası Avrupa kıtasının üzerinde 400 km yükseklikte patlatılırsa, bunun yaratacağı EMP'nin şiddeti Avrupadaki tüm elektriki gücü yok eder, tüm sivil telefon ağı yok olur, tüm ticari radyo istasyonları susar, kıtadaki korunmaya alınmamış herbir parça elektronik cihaz, radyolar, TV'ler, bilgisayarlar, evlerdeki elektronik kontrol cihazları, ofis ve binalardaki elektronik kontrol cihazları, fabrikalar, uçaklar, hastanelerdeki elektronik cihazlar eğer tahrip olmamışlarsa muhakkak hasar görürler.
Bu Palsler ayrıca tüm askerî komuta altındaki kontrol teşkilatı ve muhabere sistemini de hasara uğratacak veya tahrip edecektir. Elektromanyetik palsler tüm nükleer elektrik santrallarında zincirleme reaksiyonlara sebeb olarak nükleer çekirdeğin erimesi sonucu hasar daha büyük boyutlara ulaşabilecektir.
250 mil tepemizde patlatılacak bir nükleer bombanın ürettiği Gamma ışınları patlamayı takip eden bir-kaç nanosaniyede atmosferdeki möleküllerin elektronları ile çarpışmadan önce kilometrelerce yol alır. Bu çarpışma ile hızlanan elektronlar dünyanın manyetik sahasına ulaşınca Compton etkisi denilen bir olaydan ötürü dünyaya doğru hareket eden elektromanyetik palsler üretirler.
Yaşam Üzerindeki Etkileri:
Bütün bu felaketlerin bir kısmından kurtulmak için gerek sivil gerekse askeri Otoriteler birçok koruyucu sistemler geliştirmişlerdir. EMP koruması için binaları tümü ile şiltlemek, yani Faraday kafesi içine almak mümkün görülmekle beraber çok büyük harcamalara sebeb olduğu da açıktır.
Otobüs imalatçısı bir firmanın deneme sürüşünde, bir TV vericisinin yanından geçerken otobüsün frenlerinin tutmadığı saptanmıştı. Yapılan araştırmada, TV sinyalinin mikroprosesörün çalışmasını engellediği kesin olarak ortaya çıkarıldı. Bu denli küçük bir TV sinyalinin böyle bir etkisi varsa, bir EMP'nin neler yapabileceğini anlamak zor olmıyacaktır.
Hava Kuvvetleri, Trestle adını verdikleri bir proje ile 12 katlı, 58 metrekarelik bir alanda uçağın etrafında tek bir çivi kullanılmadan ağaç kolonlarla bir rampa inşa etti. Kulede 5 milyon voltluk palsler üretilerek uçağa yapacağı çeşitli etkiler inceleniyordu. Sensorlar dataları Fiberoptik hatlarla şiltlenmiş binalardaki bilgisayarlara gönderiyordu.
